Character Canon: arcane
Canon Point: right before presenting the proposal to let the undercity gain independence
Age: 32
Crime: neglicence. not only did him neglecting to, you know, take any kinds of safety measures with the hexcore result in sky's death, the crime is somewhat ironic in the sense that he hasn't exactly taken a whole lot of care of himself in his hurry to devote all of his time to Science(tm).
Background: eyy
Personality:
genius vs. reclusive. Viktor is, without a doubt, someone who could be classified as a genius — even just his endeavours with Hextech prove as much. However, his fascination with all things scientific comes with its flip side: ever since childhood, Viktor has been a loner, sticking to himself and his projects over trying to engage with others his age. This tendency is exacerbated further when he starts at the Academy; he himself points out later that he's never fitted in, that because of his Undercity background he's always been an outsider in Piltover, without money, a patron or a good name to back him up. All he has is his intellect (along with his daring and ambition, which will be touched on in a second) — something that takes him to Jayce, and then to Hextech. It is worth noting that his friendship with Jayce does prove that he isn't entirely reclusive, even though he's more than happy to let Jayce be the public face of their scientific achievements, to take care of the politicking and public speaking so he can focus on simply the science. However, this doesn't mean he's not personable — he has a wry, sarcastic sense of humour, which, when it makes an appearance, can be quite dark.
altruistic vs. ambitious. It may not seem so at first, but Viktor is at his heart very altruistic: what drives him is the wish to do good, to help people, to spread his and Jayce's inventions to not just further the wealth of the already wealthy, but to aid the lives of those less wealthy; those living in the Undercity, especially. However, his desire to do good is directly contrasted with and sometimes at war with his own ambition. As Heimerdinger's assistant, he very clearly states that that is hardly what he wanted to do in life: he wants to do more, be more — he wants a legacy that will live on after him. His ambition drives him to rather insane lengths sometimes, such as sleeping in the lab, continuing to work on the projects at the cost of his own health, and, most notably, seek out Singer's help and try to alter his own body with the help of shimmer and the Hexcore, all so that he could extend his own life in order to achieve what he wants. One may argue that his willingness to do whatever is needed to not die is due to his desire to do good: that the longer he lives, the longer he can continue to create something useful to help people... but in the end, it is his ambition that wins out, along with his desire to be remembered. And he can't die, not when what he's achieved so far will not make for a good enough legacy to leave behind.
daring vs. resentful. "When you're going to change the world, don't ask for permission." What Viktor tells Jayce at the start of their partnership encapsulates his stance perfectly — while Viktor may seem quiet and reserved, he is actually quite brave and daring. Not only was bravery needed for someone from the Undercity to move to Piltover and attend the Academy, he doesn't shy away from trying new things, even breaking rules, if it makes something he wants to achieve possible. Sneaking into Heimerdinger's lab, basically stealing Jayce's research to familiarise himself with it, using shimmer on himself — there's a variety of things Viktor is not just willing to do, but actually does them... because sometimes, to him, the end justifies the means. His daring doesn't just extend to what he does, but also what he says: Jayce has to hold him back from arguing with Heimerdinger about their new Hextech inventions, and he speaks his mind quite plainly on several occasions when one might expect him to hold his tongue. This ties in with the resentment he carries: over being an outsider in Piltover, over being overlooked so easily because of his physical defects, over feeling like he's not taken seriously. There is a lot of anger that Viktor carries and doesn't express in any way — anger at the Council for dictating what they need to do with Hextech, anger at Heimerdinger for trying to hold them back from releasing their inventions to the public, anger at the people of Piltover for looking down on him and the people of the Undercity, anger at Jayce for focusing on the Council and not on their science projects... and anger at himself, for allowing his desire to be great blind himself to the fact he's not done nearly as much good as he would have wanted to do, for allowing his ambition to push him so far with the Hexcore it took Sky dying for him to see the truth of the matter.
Abilities: just his genius-level scienctist/inventor skills. even though it is never directly explained in the canon, i am playing his deal with his hand/leg as "hexcore giveth, hexcore taketh away" aka it retaliated after he tried to destroy it by taking away whatever enhancements he'd managed to do with it. hence he just has a cool purple leg and arm, but his leg is still just as non-functional as before.
Inventory: his crutch
Samples: tdm threads. i swear i haven't dropped them, it's just been a tough week at work...
Questions: so, just as a pre-emptive thing: considering he's annoyingly good at, hm, science — in the future, if he's going to go on inventing things, how should i go about it? ask on the faq if xyz is possible, or treat these things like activity rewards and ask for them on the page, or something else?
